Armed Assault – After It's Release

It's been over a month since Armed Assault was first publicly released, a lot of questions have been answered and a lot of people have been satisfied with the game. But, there has also been complaining and moaning from others about different things wrong with the game.

Czech Version – Bugs

The Czech version had a good start, being the first version available to the public. However, it wasn't long before Czech game owners started finding bugs in the game. One of first most popular bugs that many people found interesting was the 'Flipping Truck'. A truck was drove over a bridge that had only just been blown up and hit the bank below, then bounced up and did a flip to land back on the bridge and land on 4 wheels (See the madness for yourself here).

Other bugs starting appearing including weapons with no recoil and other bugs that some people noticed.

After a lot of people reported these bugs in threads on different Armed Assault forum's, it wasn't long before Bohemia Interactive (Creators of Armed Assault and Operation Flashpoint) setup a bug's list on their Wiki Site. Looking at the list today, over one month since the public release and the list is already keeping BI busy.

Czech Version - “I will wait...”

Everyone was looking forward to the Czech Version of Armed Assault. Well, they was until gamers found out that Starforce, which is a piece of copy protection software implemented into the game to avoid copying, was being added into the Czech Version. Why? Starforce has been used in many games and programs and rumours are said that Starforce can corrupt hard drives and destroy disk drives until they are unusable. Therefore a lot of people avoided the risk by waiting and getting the German Version.

German Version – So is it better?

The German version of the game was released at the end of November, and had a bigger online market than what the Czech Version had. The game was available from Amazon, eBay and ArmAMods.net.

This game made a lot of people disappointed with the first people to own the first version of it. A lot of performance issue's was found by many gamers, including ones with high quality computers. This was a big let down and made some people change their mind about buying Armed Assault.

The bugs from the Czech Version still remained, including the performance issue's that came with the game. Had Armed Assault's quality got worse?

What has BI done to fix these problems?

On the 30th November 2006, BI Studio's released their first Armed Assault Patch, which they said improved performance and many over bugs, but not all of them. This patch was version 1.01.

A lot of bugs was fixed, although the performance issues still existed in the game for a lot of people.

On the 15th December 2006 patch 1.02 was released to fix some more bugs and optimize the game more. Again, some more performance issue's was said to be fixed but some are still present.

Another subject in Armed Assault that was complained about was the helicopter flying in game. People mentioned that the flying was to difficult and twitchy and near impossible to fly. However, some people proved that it was possible to fly after some practice in the helicopters in game. Despite this BI Studio's made the flying easier and more smooth in patch 1.02.

Multiplayer – What has been happening since the release?

When Armed Assault was released in both the Czech Republic and Germany, playing online in game was quite difficult. Servers had to have the Armed Assault disc inside the system the server was running on. A lot of people who had dedicated servers in places like London and other big cities did not want to buy another copy of the game to send off just for a server. Therefore, people wanted a Dedicated Server which did not need a disc and would simply run on a server.

On the 8th December 2006 “The Armed Assault Win32 Dedicated Server Beta 1.01.5099” was released. This was just over a week after the German release of Armed Assault and it was run on the latest game version of 1.01.

After the 1.02 patch had been released, a lot of Multilayer code in the game had been updated and it was impossible to play on versions 1.01 or less. Therefore, a Dedicated Server for 1.02 had been released on the same day as the 1.02 patch.

I want a Demo!

A demo was said to be released “As soon as Armed Assault went Gold”. The German version of the game was gold and people started asking where the Demo was. A lot of gamers who had not got the game had seen a lot of people having trouble with getting Armed Assault to work well, or even at all with their computer which made them wait until the demo was released. After a long wait FilePlanet had announced a release date for the download which was said to be the December 21st.

When the day came Marek Španěl, Director of Bohemia Interactive, confirmed that it is correct about the demo release, and also that it would be released at 9:00 AM Pacific Time.

A lot of people were upset that FilePlanet was only allowing downloads from Subscribers. Subscribers of FilePlanet pay for a subscription and a lot of people did not want to 'buy' the demo.

Once the demo had been downloaded a lot of mirrors started popping up around the internet. The demo was known as 1.03. This was the latest version, and a patch for the full game had not been released yet.

Czech, German.. But I speak English?

A lot of the Armed Assault community know English as their only language, and the games did not supply this language in the two versions that have been released.

Thanks to SickBoy, an unofficial language patch was released by him updating the Czech version not long after its release, then soon after the German version there was 2 language patches for each version. This put a lot of happy smiles on English faces.

General Reaction

Most of the Armed Assault Community have enjoyed the release of Armed Assault, and will continue playing it. However, there is a small amount of gamers who have been disappointed with the performance or general game play of Armed Assault.

We would like to see these gamers come back after most of the bugs and issues have been fixed.
